Day Three- Newport and water

Wednesday was a day to explore the area and not travel t a new campground. It was good to stay put today. We went into Newport and went the Oregon Coast Aquarium. When we went in 1993 the facility was a year old and we got the family of six in for $24.15. This time the six of us was $121.75. There have been some changes over time. They also have added new things and we had an enjoyable time. We first watched the sea otters.

Next it was a lively octopus.

We then watched sea lions and seals.

Then we watched a pelican show which got Aubrey's attention.

It was now time to wander into some of the other exhibits such as the shark area where they swim to the side, above and below you. Connor has his identification sheet to tell Shannon what they are seeing.

Other exhibits the kids were in the middle of the tank with an eel.

It was a fun morning at the aquarium.

Now it was time to go to the shore and do some tide pooling. The tide pool was at Yaquina Head. There is also a light house here. You have to walk down a series of wood stairs to the pebble beach and then the tide pools. There were seals on the rocks which restricted some of the areas we could explore.

We saw anonomies, urchins and star fish.

Connor had another identification card to help us find all the animals.

After spending a few hours there it was back to camp and then we went into Newport to walk around town and have diner at Mo's. When we first discovered Mo's it was just the garage door opening, a saw dust floor and you sat on a picnic type table with everyone else. Still the same location but a larger building and now traditional dining tables.

As we walked along the docks we saw a couple of seals swimming around.

Then it was back to camp to watch another sunset. The camp and the beach are separated by the highway and you walk under the bridge to get to teh beach. The kids chased the waves while we watched the sun set.
