Acappellastock 2014

August 23 was the date for our annual concert at the Ogden Amphitheater. It has been going on for 11 years and I don't think we have missed any of them. The week had rainstorms throughout the week. It rained Friday evening and a storm came through Saturday morning but by the time of the concert it had cleared off even though it was probably the coolest temperature we had for one of these events.  The sunset hitting the Municipal Building as we waited for the concert lighted up the building.

We set in a group with Chad and Jennifer and their family (Cecelia's sisters family), Cameron and Cecelia, Cindy and Maddie, and Alan and Kathy Whetton. (Cindy is always on the phone now with her new calling as Relief Society President).

In addition to T-Minus 5, who puts on the event, there was a local group called FOG (fat old guys). They had a pretty funny routine with changing the words of many of the songs.

They were followed by a group from Boston called Ball in the House.  That group was really entertaining and we enjoyed their performance. We had a good evening and enjoy this yearly tradition.

Montgomery outing

In the summer of 1994, Mom and Dad left for Ohio and sold the home we grew up in. With it was the end of the family pool parties which started on Memorial Day and ended with Labor Day. Jan made arrangements with the the Hall's who bought the home from Mom and Dad for us all to gather there and have a 20 year pool party reunion. It was so fun to get back together there at the pool. While the family has got bigger in numbers and also water displacement it was so fun...
The first picture is Gaven doing a flip off the board back in 1994. There were lots of boys doing flips this time with varied success from Taylor and Tyson's horse riding dive to Nic doing a cannon ball and Shannon doing a flip.

Maddie is riding an invisible horse with this jump.

We also had a nice picnic at the poolside. The location of eating had changed from under the arbor to along the poolside because of our numbers.

We had some good laughs at the splashes and the six man basketball routine. The first picture below was again in 1994 and then 2014.

It was a wonderful day and so thankful that we could spend the time together as an extended family at the old home.
The home addition is coming along slowly so here is a picture of the addition in mid August. I guess I just play around too much.

Final outing before back to school

Cindy will start school on Thursday the 15th so we decided to have one last little outing. We decided to go to Bear Lake. We went up Monday afternoon and got a camp site at the Sunrise campground. There were not many people there as the camp had no water. Luckily we had water in the tent trailer. I had got it working again since it had gone out on us the last day in Yellowstone. While we were having dinner a deer wandered by and did not seem bothered by us at the least.

We then went down to the Pickelville Playhouse to watch "Who Shot Juanito Bandito". It was funny and had us laughing all night.

After the play the big full moon came up over the lake. They called it the super moon because it was the closest to the earth this time in its orbit and was supposed to be 10% brighter than other full moons. I sat at our campground just enjoying the way the moon lit up the area and tried my luck at a night shot of how the aspens shined in the moon light.

The next morning I took this picture of the same view that I took the evening before but now in sunlight.

We walked over to the edge of the campground and looked at the lake. The sun created a hazy light on the seed pods of the mountain mahogany which I tried to capture with this photo.

Shannon and her kids and Maddie arrived by 11. Out came the bikes and Connor and Payton had to show us how they can ride without training wheels.

We then went down to the lake to play. The tubes were a big hit and  Conner loved the big tube because he could get in it and not get wet.

We then rented some skidoos and had fun riding out in the lake.

It was then back to the beach to lay around and make some sand turtles.

It was then time to pack up, get shakes then head back home. The summer trips have come to an end and it is back to school.

First week of August

The first week of August was kind of busy with concerts, birthdays and weddings. We first went to the Bill Cosby concert in Layton on the 6th. We had seen him years ago at Weber State and have always enjoyed his humor and style. He did not disappoint this time either even though he is now 77. He kept us laughing for 2 hours.

Two days later was Cindy's birthday and we went out to get her back to school clothes. We were then going to meet the whole family for dinner. We however had to wait for about 40 minutes to check out the clothes we were buying for who knows what reason. We finally made it to dinner and then had cake at our house after dinner. Since Cindy's school theme is owls her cake had an owl on it.

Saturday the 9th was back up to Idaho Falls for the wedding of Daniel Whitaker and Emma Leigh. We had a wedding breakfast and then spent some time at the local farmers market until it was time for the wedding.

It was a nice ceremony and then we waited outside for the happy bride and groom to come out.

Finally they came out the doors and we all greeted them.

We drove back to Lava in the afternoon and thought we would go swimming but the pool and town was so crowded we just hung out at Kent and Tammy's house until; it was time for the reception. It was a very nice day.

July Activites

We had a series of events during the middle of July that we took advantage of Some were planned and others not. One night we were coming home from a concert in Layton and when we were on 12th Street noticed a fire on the mountain side. We spent 3 hours watching the blaze as the wind first blew it down the mountain and then back up the mountain. Luckily no homes were damaged and the next day the fire was out and it was just clean up.

Girls camp was mixed into the week of the 24th which took Cindy away from the home for a while. When they returned we had an impromptu picnic over the holiday and fireworks.

]

We then threw Lagoon into the mix one day.

On Saturday the 26th we went with the family to the play "Wicked" in Salt Lake. Carlin and Tammy even joined us. We enjoyed this experience and the play was awesome.

The final week of the month we first went to a special open house for the Ogden Temple on Monday We then went education week at BYUI in Rexburg. We stayed in Idaho Falls and went to the temple on Wednesday night and then spent the next three days on the campus and had a wonderful time learning and being together. The campus was so pretty. It was hard to believe that two weeks earlier they had a flood that brought 4" of rain in an hour and had the sidewalks and stairs rivers of water.
