U.E.A. Weekend

The U.E.A. weekend is generally the final camping trip of the year. We left Wednesday night but a wreck on the freeway delayed us getting to the campground before 9 p.m. so we ended up staying at a KOA. Nothing like $50 for the privilege to camp on a gravel lot. The next morning we went to Red Cliffs to do a small hike as we waited for the Lovelands to come down. There was a nice little green area along a creek and then we made our way to an area where there were dinosaur tracks.

Can you tell which footprint is the dinosaurs?

We then hiked up to an overview area. There are a lot more things we want to do in the future in this area.

We then set up camp at Sand Hollow. In the afternoon we went to an area along the Santa Clara River outside of Ivans. We hiked up a hill and then along the ledge were there were pictographs of so many different things.

We realized why some of the figures held their arms out the way they did, it allows the breeze to cool your armpits as Maddie demonstrates here. It was in the mid 90's on this hike so Maddie proved that this position is effective.

Group photo with the Lovelands.

After this hike or walk; the debate continues on what it was, we went back to Sand Hollow so Maddie and Jake Loveland could go riding for a while.

After that it was off to Tuachan to watch Sister Act. We really enjoyed the play. We got to camp around 11:30 with a special gate key since the gates close at 9. We had some ice cram and watched for shooting stars.

The next morning we did some more riding thanks to the Lovelands and their vehicles.

Then it was time to pack up and go. We first went to the Kolob section of Zions and hiked Taylor's Creek though. This is always pretty hike and the colors are magnificent.

We did not get to the end of the canyon before it was time to turn back. We had a BYU football game in Provo that started at 6. We made it with only missing a couple of minutes of the game even though we left the Canyon at about 1:45. While it was a quick trip packed with lots of things it was fun.
