weekend storms

The summer has been very dry and also hot. There has been little rain but at the end of August and the first day of September a series of storms finally rolled in. There was rain, lightning, thunder, wind, hail.
A variety of fast moving storms came each night that probably gave more rain in two days than seen since May combined. It cleared the smoke from the sky and left everything clean.

The cloud formations were amazing. Each morning was bright with blue skies. By afternoon the skies would cloud up. I photographed the Saturday storm as the skies got darker.

It then hailed. It only lasted a minute but the stones were the size of a nickel.

It then rained. The sky then cleared in the west to create a wonderful rainbow.

There were still some interesting cloud formations over the mountains as the storm moved to the east.

By the end of the day the clouds were scattered in the west and created a beautiful sunset changing from golds to reds. We live in a beautiful place!

Cameron and Cecelia probably thought I was strange as I kept calling them out to look at the sky. But then they probably don't care because they are in love.
