The Kitchen Remodel

After a month of work the kitchen is finally done. It has been years in the making as Cindy had to deal with worn out flooring, faucets that hummed when the water was turned on and a dishwasher that sounded like an engine test out at Thiokal. Of course there was the section of tile flooring which was actually a puzzle for the Payton and Connor to play with when they came over. After the years of living with that the changes started in the last part of January.

It first required replacing the existing tile with a new tile floor. Removing the old time and thin set was a chore. We finally rented a grinder to level the floor but there was still a lot of hand chipping that needed to take place. Once a spot was cleared I would work on a section of new tile a bit at a time realizing we needed to keep the kitchen functional as long as we could.

It then got to a point that the stove had to be moved out so I could tile that area. Some cabinets also needed to be moved out to make the floor pattern work. A door was replaced and a new pantry door was cut out so there would be better access to some of the food storage area.

Finally it got to the point everything had to be removed. Sink, dishwasher cabinets all had to go to finish the floor and get ready for cabinets. We did move the fridge to the other side of the room where the tile had been finished for some time so we had at least one kitchen amenity. Of course removing everything exposed our unusual pipe situation along the wall and we had to do some plumbing repairs where there had been some leaks.

The day came when the cabinets arrived and where installed. It would be another week before the counter tops came so we used an old top to make a temporary place to eat from and put things on.

Finally the counter tops came and we were able to start doing the finishing work. Door trims and back splash, relocating the TV and stocking the drawers. The entire layout changed and we know have a kitchen that is very comfortable and that we can feel good about and has more cabinet space and room to move around in. .
